چکیده

Red rice and rice belong to the same genus and species. Both are selfpollinated plants, but some outcrossing has been documented. Due to outcrossing, there are chances of resistant gene transfer from herbicide-resistant rice to red rice, which may increase the weediness of red rice. In 2000 simultaneous flowering was observed between Clearfield® CL2551 and red rice at the Rice Research and Extension Center, Stuttgart, AR. In 2001 the natural population of red rice in the field was sprayed three times with imazethapyr at 0.07 kg/ha. Seven-hundred twenty plants (F1) survived these applications, and 283 plants (39%) were presumed crosses. These plants had either vegetative or seed characteristics somewhere between red rice and resistant rice. A field experiment was conducted in 2002 to compare the morphological and phenological characteristics of selected presumed crosses from the 283 putative crosses mentioned above at RREC, Stuttgart, AR. Stuttgart strawhull red rice and Clearfield® rice were used as standards. Imazethapyr at 0.07 kg/ha was sprayed at 3, 4, and 5 weeks after planting (WAP). Segregation of morphological and phenological characteristics in F2 plants were observed. Seeds were also classified for the segregation of characteristics, such as presence or absence of hairs, color, and size. A majority of herbicideresistant F2 plants and their seed maintained weedy characteristics from red rice. There was also synchronization in flowering between Clearfield rice, red rice, and the crosses. BREEDING, GENETICS, AND PHYSIOLOGY AAES Research Series ###

Gene flow from cultivated rice (Oryza sativa) to its weedy and wild relatives.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Transgene escape through gene flow from genetically modified (GM) crops to their wild relative species may potentially cause environmental biosafety problems. The aim of this study was to assess the extent of gene flow between cultivated rice and two of its close relatives under field conditions. METHODS Experiments were conducted at two sites in Korea and China to determi...

Genetic worth and stability of selection indices in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Improvement of one trait on its own will affect the performance of other traits because ofgenotypic correlations between traits. Index selection is one of the tools used by plant breedersto overcome this problem. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate selection indices developedfor improving grain yield in rice (Oryza sativa L.). Forty-nine rice genotypes were cultivated atTonekabon Rice Rese...

Identification of major and minor genes associated with heading date in an indica × indica cross of rice (Oryza Sativa L.)

In this study, quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling rice heading date were detected in a F2:3 population derived from a cross between an indica rice variety, Tarom Mahalli, with early heading date, and an indica variety, Khazar, with late heading date. SSR linkage map was constructed using 74 polymorphic markers and 192 F2 individuals and covered a total of 1231.50 cM of rice genome. QTL ...

Assessment of genotype × environment interaction and grain yield stability of selected aerobic rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes in northern region of Iran

For sustainable rice production in Iran the optimum use of production resources and the reduction of production costs are the two important issues. In this situation, water availability is a major limiting factor in sustainable rice production. Hence, changing of rice production system from lowland irrigated to aerobic production system, which is based on dry-seed sowing in non-puddled and non...
